10 Signs that the Thrill is Gone

Readers, I think the time has come. The spark just isn't there anymore. What once was a steamy affair has now become... well, too comfortable. No, sillies, not my marriage! My relationship with the reproductive endocrinologist's office has become complacent. My dear friends, I give you 10 Signs that the Thrill is Gone:

  1. The nurses recognize your voice on the phone, and they don't need to ask for a call-back number.
  2. You stop shaving for "intimate encounters".
  3. You no longer apologize for bleeding during above-mentioned encounters.
  4. No one even bats an eye when you help yourself to food from the staff room.
  5. There is no shame in dozing on the waiting room couch in your jammies.
  6. You don't mind pooping in their bathroom.
  7. The ultrasound technician no longer provides warning before inserting the probe.
  8. There is no longer a sense of mystery. You know how the ultrasound equipment works. You can identify all the equipment in the embryo transfer room. In fact, you've been in every single room in the practice, and you can direct wandering male patients to the specimen collection area.
  9. You don't care which pair of underwear you have on when you visit.
  10. American Idol, celebrity tabloids, and sex jokes are appropriate conversation topics during invasive testing.

So, on the eve of my first injection for this upcoming cycle, I ponder this: Some young lovers believe that when a relationship gets too comfortable, it's time to end it. That it's time to move on when bodily functions and bad habits are exhibited without shame. It is our hope that we're able to move on from our infertility doctor after this IVF. Wish us luck!
